Wright Discusses Central Park 5 Gate on 1010 WINS Radio

December 19, 2022 – Keith L.T. Wright, Director of Strategic Planning in the Government Relations group served as a Master of Ceremonies for the dedication and unveiling of the “Gate of the Exonerated” in Central Park and was interviewed on 1010 WINS News Radio for their story today. The gate stands at the entrance to Central Park at 110th Street between Fifth Avenue and Malcom X Boulevard.

The ceremony recognized the wrongful conviction and imprisonment of five youths accused of brutalizing a female jogger in Central Park more than 30 years ago.  Each of the “exonerated five”, Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson and Yusef Salaam – served several years in prison before being exonerated in 2002.

Years later, thanks to DNA analysis, it was determined that another serial rapist actually committed the the crime, and Manhattan prosecutor, Robert Morgenthau then ordered a new investigation and subsequent recommendation, that a judge vacate the convictions.

Prior to joining DHC, Keith Wright spent 23 years in the NYS Legislature representing his district of Harlem and has been a strong advocate for the innocent, wrongly convicted, as well as the need for fair investigations and prosecution — he has followed the case for years and has spoken out before on this story.
