Grant on Legal, Financial Issues in Dementia Divorce Cases
April 18, 2023 – DHC Divorce & Family Law Partner, Patricia Ann Grant shared her expertise handling complex divorces with MarketWatch for their article, “Can a person with dementia get divorced? The legal and financial concerns.”
According to Grant, a divorce with one spouse suffering from dementia is rare, and the diagnosis makes the proceedings a lot more complicated.
In the event of a divorce involving dementia, Grant noted that court-appointed guardians are necessary to protect the spouse’s wishes and assets; however, the involvement of a third-party guardian will draw out the proceedings as they need time to “learn all the intricacies of the lives of those involved.”
