Bridging Black History and Irish History Months - A Celebration of Community
March 4, 2026 – Keith Wright of Wright Strategies, LLC and DHC’s Sean Crowley, Arthur Goldstein, and Andreas Koutsoudakis attended the Brehon Law Society/Irish African Diaspora Luncheon yesterday, an event celebrating the shared histories and enduring connections between Black and Irish communities. The program served as a meaningful bridge between Black History Month and Irish heritage celebrations, highlighting common themes of migration, resilience, exclusion, perseverance, and the pursuit of dignity and justice. The luncheon brought together leaders from across the legal community and was co-sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of the New York County Supreme Court, the Brehon Law Society, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, the National Lawyers Guild, the Irish American Bar Association of New York, the Caribbean Attorneys Network, and the Association of Black Women Attorneys.
DHC was especially proud to see Keith Wright honored by the African American Irish Diaspora Network as a distinguished leader whose work reflects the very bridge between communities that the event sought to highlight. The program featured remarks from Suzanne Adams, Administrative Judge; Edwina Richardson, Deputy Administrative Judge of Justice Initiatives; and Róisín Leonard, Deputy Counsel General of Ireland. Dennis Brown Lee, leader of the African American Irish Diaspora Network (AAIDN), also spoke about the organization’s work highlighting the historic and contemporary connections between Black and Irish communities.
The event also included a moving musical opening by Sean Crowley, who served as MC and performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “The Soldier’s Song,” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
A fireside chat and book discussion (book: An Irish Passion for Justice) explored the legacy of Paul O’Dwyer, whose life reflected courage, conviction, and cross-community advocacy. The conversation featured Kristin Booth Glen, Michael Tubridy, and Robert Polner, and the program also recognized members of the O’Dwyer family in attendance.
