First Student Rolls Out 10 Electric School Buses for Brooklyn and Queens Students, With 40 More on the Way

September 15, 2026 (East New York, Brooklyn) – First Student, North America’s largest student transportation services provider, announced the completion of the first phase of a Con Edison electric school bus project serving the New York City Department of Education. The announcement was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the deployment of 10 electric school buses serving Brooklyn and Queens students. First Student’s plans to deploy 40 additional electric school buses across New York City. Supported by First Charge™ trenchless and modular charging infrastructure, this project will reduce construction costs by 13% and help make fleet electrification more efficient in a complex urban environment.

Several district representatives applauded the launch, including Brooklyn Deputy Borough President, Kim Council; New York State Senator Roxanne Persaud; New York State Assembly Member Nikki Lucas; and New York City Council Deputy Leader, Chis Banks.
