Matthew C. Harnisch is a skilled commercial and appellate litigator in Davidoff Hutcher & Citron’s New York City office. Known for his strategic mindset and results-oriented approach, Matthew represents clients in complex litigation matters spanning a diverse array of industries. His sharp analytical abilities and foresight enable him to identify potential issues early, helping clients navigate legal challenges with efficiency and confidence. Matthew’s proactive problem-solving delivers practical solutions that save clients time and resources while protecting their interests.

Before joining Davidoff Hutcher & Citron, Matthew served as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, where he played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic crime surge. He gained extensive courtroom experience, arguing multiple times before the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, leading investigations, and successfully trying both jury and bench cases.

Matthew also served as a Senior Legal Fellow in the Office of the General Counsel for the New York State Office of the Attorney General under the Honorable Letitia James. There, he directed special investigations and contributed to significant litigation and strategic initiatives, serving in both the Investor Protection Bureau and the Executive Division.

Matthew earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was a judicial intern for the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and served on the executive board of the Journal of Civil Rights and Economic Development. He was recognized with the Public Service Award for his dedication to pro bono service.

Matthew’s professional experience extends beyond the legal sector. He previously worked with the Honorable Joseph F. Crowley in the U.S. House of Representatives and developed financial expertise at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Legg Mason, and Stifel.

A proud New York City native, Matthew is a graduate of Colgate University.
