Hutcher Wins First Legal Battle Over MSGs Attorney Ban

November 23, 2022 – Larry K. Hutcher, Co-Managing Partner and Chair of Commercial Litigation scored a major legal victory against Madison Square Garden last month as Judge Lyle Frank ruled that the entertainment behemoth could not enforce a total ban on DHC attorneys entering Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theater and the company’s namesake venue, among others.

MSG Entertainment has a long-standing, controversial policy of banning attorneys from firms that bring lawsuits of any kind against them, but Hutcher, a celebrated Knicks season ticket holder for decades, fought back and won back the right for his fellow DHC attorneys to attend non-sporting events.

A New York appeals court limited Judge Frank’s decision to only enable DHC, and not lawyers at the countless other firms facing similar bans, propelling several of them to follow the legal pathway laid down by the DHC Litigation Practice Group.

MSG’s use of facial recognition technology to give unsuspecting lawyers the boot from everything from a Mariah Carey Christmas concert to a trip to the Rockettes with a Girl Scout troop has been making front-page news in local, national and international media outlets including the New York Post, New York Times and Rolling Stone—many of those spotlighting the litigation set in motion by DHC’s continued representation of ticket brokers and resellers.

Thanks to Larry Hutcher, DHC may be the catalyst for finally putting an end to these bullying intimidation practices once and for all.
