February 9, 2020 – New York City’s Department of Buildings has adopted new, more stringent regulations for façade inspections and repairs under Local Law 11. As before, regular inspections are required for all buildings which are greater than six stories in height.

The new rules mandate that qualified exterior wall inspectors have at least seven years of relevant experience with facades over six stories (increased from one year) and require that inspectors provide detailed resumes indicating relevant work experience and submit to oral and written examinations at the request of the Buildings Commissioner.

The standards for performing inspections has also been increased: inspectors must submit photographic evidence to guard against false filings and inspections must be performed at intervals of not more than sixty feet of street frontage at a time.

Penalties for late filings are also increased from $2,000 to $5,000.  The notice of adoption and final enacted text can be accessed here.
